It’s time for one of our favorite blog posts! I feel like we might say that a lot, but it’s because we have such awesome stuff to share with you all!
This week, we get to share with you about one of our amazing volunteers, Erin Beck from Nautilus (she’s the one in the middle ;). Not only is this her third year being a mentor in our Prospere program, but this is her third year being a middle school mentor in our Prospere program. Erin’s heart for this tough age definitely shines through and her dedication to her mentoring group is really what stands out to the kids. She is consistently there for them, and wants to be there for them and they can see that so clearly at every group meeting.
As a mother herself, Erin has a passion for supporting teens, especially those at middle school age because she knows how difficult life can be when one is going through so much transition and unpredictability. She actually helped us launch the pilot version of this program in the fall of 2015 and has been with us ever since. Erin has helped us create curriculum, find speakers, and connect us to partners to ensure this mentoring program is a success.
We couldn’t be more thankful to have her. Mentors like Erin are make a huge difference in our local community. Having a dependable and positive adult role model helps “establish autonomy and provides the most relational benefits to at-risk students during the period of adolescence.” Overall, education systems and nonprofits are constantly “seeking to improve the social and emotional development of young adolescents, and developing strong mentoring programs with reliable mentors provides a huge benefit in those areas to students and overall to those in the community.”*
You can see why writing up these little articles is one of our favorite things to do. We get to highlight the amazing, hard work of our outside volunteers that join with our staff and our officers to really make a difference.
Thank you so much Erin for being who you are and for giving of yourself to change the lives of teens for the better! We are so lucky to have you!
