PAL Squad Continues

Starting just last year, with the inaugural AppleTree Marathon, the PAL Squad running team has been making a name for itself around here both at PAL and in our city of Vancouver itself.

We have been super excited to learn over the past few months, that several  members of the original PAL Squad have taken it upon themselves to continue on as an extension of the Squad and run in other local races that contribute to worthy nonprofits.  Races they have have been involved in include:

  • The Run to Remember – benefitting NW Battle Buddies who empower combat veterans with PTSD by partnering them with professionally trained service dogs at no charge.
  • The Scary Run – benefitting Friends of the Gorge to protect the scenic and recreational resources of the Columbia River Gorge and help with recent fire restoration.
  • The Couver Clover – which benefits a charity of the runner’s choice.

And of course, they will be back to join with the rest of the PAL Squad for the second annual AppleTree Marathon, benefitting PAL, which is coming up this September!  About 15 Vancouver Police Department officers have committed to run in these upcoming races and we are so happy to see this kind of community involvement continue! The charge is being led by Officer Gerardo Gutierrez and Sergeant Blaise Geddry, who are some of our star runners in The AppleTree Marathon, as they complete the race in full VPD uniform!

Other than members of law enforcement, there are also Squad members that are PAL volunteers, members of neighboring organizations, and a few people who are just excited to participate in this run to support PAL.  There is still about 20 slots available for AppleTree Marathon 2019!

If anyone is interested in signing up with the PAL Squad, the race entry is free and raising money for PAL at the same time makes it a win-win!  Contact our Executive Director, Jenny Thompson, for more information at
