A quick one this week, as we’ve got a whole lot coming up for you all with the launch of summer camps, the Apple Tree Marathon, and our soccer championship all right around the corner!
But since it’s time for a volunteer highlight, we just couldn’t wait to give a shout out to one of the people we couldn’t do most of these things without: Mr Chad Chaney. Not only is he one of our best soccer referees, he has also gone above and beyond and recruited at least four other refs for both of PAL’s friendly and invitational tournaments. It’s always a fun time on the field with Chad and you can’t always tell who is having a better time, the refs or the kids!
How Chad shines off the field, is as a mentor with our Prospere program. He hangs out at lunch with a group of students from Evergreen High School, and talks with them about how to face life’s challenges head on and with integrity. Again, he is working above and beyond, as he is routinely reaching out to the community to join PAL as a Prospere mentor. Chad sees how much of an impact a positive adult mentor in a young person’s life can really make a difference and it is a rewarding experience for him as a volunteer as well.
Being a numbers guy (Chad is a loan officer with Willamette Valley Bank), he has even treated the students at Evergreen High with a Money 101 presentation. You’d be surprised just how much high schoolers actually value lessons such as these. Some of them are already contributing to their own households, or working to keep themselves afloat, so Chad’s guidelines can be extra important to these students.
Thank you so much Chad for participating with PAL on so many different levels. We know the youth all appreciate you very much and we do too! We are lucky to have you as one of our own and are happy to highlight your amazing work for this community!
